Reviews for the overthinker

Miraculous Ladybug London Special: The Next Hawkmoth Is Scary
She's realised how much she relies on Cat Noir. And she's realised he's the only one who's been through it all with her. I want that to really sink in. I want him to be as involved now as he was at the beginning of the series.

***Spoilers for Miraculous Tales Of Ladybug And Cat Noir: everything up to and including the London Special***

I am so glad Marinette got five seasons of practice before she had to face Lila Rossi (or whatever her name is) as Hawkmoth. Because if season 1 Marinette had to face Lila as a villain, she would've lost on the first day. As much as I HATE Lila, she is capable, efficient and cunning. She's exactly the type of villain the show needs after five seasons of build up.

The Suit Is Yellow Because Marinette Made It That Way ... Duh!

There is a reason why Cat Noir and Kuro Neko / Cat Walker look vastly different despite both being Adrien Agreste as the cat miraculous holder. It is the holder who chooses what their suit looks like. That is why when Adrien possesses the snake miraculous, he makes himself look unrecognisably hideous. He didn't want to be recognised. He didn't want Ladybug to realise he was Cat Noir.

So when Bunnyx put the yellow vest on Marinette (to identify present Marinette), she implanted the idea into Marinette's head. And so when she transformed, she had to make herself look completely different from every other version of herself.

And I know Marinette says it's too flashy but it's exactly what she needed. Despite Ladybug's confidence, Marinette is still quite insecure in herself. But after going through everything she did. After having to lie to the love of her life. After almost losing her world. She has no reservations left. She will succeed. Whatever it takes.

The yellow suit isn't just a tacky suit. It is an assertion of herself as a hero. It is a promise that she will not be pushed out of the picture. And no matter how many times she has to try, she will not stop until she saves her world.

What Marinette Did Is A Betrayal

There is something so bittersweet about the London Special. Sure, Marinette achieves her goal of stopping the end of the world but does she really win? Despite the number of people who know her secret identity, she is more isolated than she ever has been before. She will either have to keep the secret of what truly happened for the rest of her life or she has to fess up to Adrien and risk him never forgiving her.

What Marinette did isn't a small thing. She didn't just lie in the heat of the moment. She had time to think. She consulted with multiple people in Adrien's life and she robbed him of his autonomy. He, who has spent his entire life under his father's thumb, now has to live with the delusion that his father was actually a good person.

Imagine how that would feel if you were the abused and isolated child who, after being locked up in a nightmare prison, was told your father died a hero. That poor, sweet boy must feel like he can never be angry about his father's actions again.

Adrien is a model. And he's the son of an incredibly famous fashion designer. And thanks to Ladybug, the whole world now thinks Gabriel Agreste is a hero. That poor boy is going to be harassed and asked about this for the rest of his life. That isn't fair.

People like Marinette, with two loving parents, don't have a right to dictate what an abused victim is or is not allowed to know. Would it hurt Adrien to know his father is a monster? Sure. Would people look down on him for it? Probably. But it would be the truth. And it would validate the anger he feels towards his father.

But Gabriel Agreste as a hero? As a victim of Monarch? That Gabriel Agreste gets a free pass for everything he's done. If Adrien were to complain about being locked up, he would forever be invalidated. People would rush to tell him his father only did it to protect him.

I Can't Believe I'm Saying This But I Need Marinette And Adrien To Cheat On Each Other

Hear me out!

I know cheating is awful and I hate how often it shows up in movies and TV shows. But I really really ship Ladybug and Cat Noir.

Now that they both have significant others (in their civilian forms), they've mellowed out. Cat Noir isn't harassing Ladybug anymore. Marinette has stopped being a creepy stalker. And they've got a very sweet relationship.

Just look at them holding each other in that end scene. Ladybug is embracing Cat Noir like he's the only one she truly has. Everything else in her life has changed but not Cat Noir. He has always been there for her. And especially now that she's keeping a huge secret from Adrien, there is bound to be some distance.

So yeah, I want them to cheat on each other with each other. Just think of the angst. The drama. The indecision before they eventually have to confess their transgression to the other. Only to realise they haven't really cheated.

I guess I just want the cheating trope without either party to actually have to cheat. I just think it'd be hilarious. Could they even get mad? They would technically be cheating on each other with each other.

I Need Cat Noir To Take On A More Active Role In Season 6

If you've gotten to this point in the show, you know Marinette is still deeply traumatised over the events of Cat Blanc. That's actually one of the reasons why she's been putting so much distance between herself and Cat Noir.

But at this stage, she's had to stop the world ending multiple times. She's realised how much she relies on Cat Noir. And she's realised he's the only one who's been through it all with her. I want that to really sink in. I want him to be as involved now as he was at the beginning of the series.

And I want her to depend on him emotionally. Alya is great but she also has a tendency to undermine Marinette's instincts. How many times has Alya gone against something Marinette asked her to do and it ended disastrously?

Just think about how quick Adrien was to believe Marinette about Lila. Think about how many times Adrien has taken Marinette's side over Chloe's lies (and Chloe is his childhood best friend). Think about how Adrien was ready to believe Ladybug when she said his father is Hawkmoth. And then you compare that to Alya: Marinette's actual best friend. Alya had to be shown proof before she believed her best friend. And she never even apologised for it.

Final Thoughts

I'm honestly excited for season 6. The stakes have been raised and the tone is a little more mature than it was at the beginning. This show has really grown with us. And it feels like a new beginning. We're getting a new version of all of our favourite characters and I'm here for it.

And I've watched an episode of season 6 and I am here for it. Sure, the change in animation style is a bit jarring but I'll get over it.
