So I’ve seen a few people complain about the Ladybug & Cat Noir movie. It’s too fast paced, essential plotlines are missing and even the characters themselves don’t act like themself. But here’s the thing. That’s the main draw of this movie. It’s not supposed to rehash the show episode by episode. There’s no need for that when the show already exists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No, this movie should be taken as an alternate timeline. The characters may have the same name but they are not in fact the same characters. Because the world this movie takes place in is not the same world the show exists in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like to think of the show as a post-apocalyptic universe. That is the only explanation for why Paris seems to be deserted and why the characters don’t seem to be particularly fazed by the existence of magical jewels and dinosaurs being brought back from extinction. Sure, it may not exactly be canon but it’s fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The movie, however, is packed full of people. And every place and character is just slightly different. The scale and impact of the conflict is so much bigger. Rather than the villain simply harassing the poor pigeon man 50 000 times, he’s releasing criminals from shady prisons. And you can actually conceptualise how powerful and wealthy Gabriel Agreste is. In the show, even his fashion shows are practically empty whereas here, we can see he actually goes to work and has employees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Would Choose Ladybug & Cat Noir Movie Gabriel Over Show Gabriel Every Time <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel Agreste is a sympathetic character in this movie. He’s not a power hungry villain knowingly endangering his own son but rather a grieving widower who feels genuine remorse upon realising the harm he causes (well to his own son at least). And sure, show Gabriel does have moments like that but for the most part, he is an abusive piece of s***. And neglecting and abusing his son 95% of the time still outweighs the few moments he has where he’s an actual human being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Show Gabriel is beyond forgiveness but movie Gabriel is not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, I think it\u2019s long past time that we start enjoying adaptations for what they are, adaptations. The movie isn\u2019t simply rehashing the show in a different format, it\u2019s shifting the entire mechanics of the universe. You need to let go of what you know. Let go of nostalgia and enjoy the movie for what it is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Actually Liked The Singing: It Fits The Theme Of The Ladybug & Cat Noir Movie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The show gave us a small taste of a musical with the Christmas special and that was \u2026 cringe. It just didn\u2019t fit into the theme. Sure, it\u2019s a kids show but after seasons of no singing, having the characters burst out into song was a bit much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just couldn\u2019t take it seriously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But with the movie, I don\u2019t know, it made sense to me. Like of course they would burst into song, the entire mechanics of the world is different. While the show made no attempts to stay realistic, there\u2019s an extra element of fantasy to the movie. It feels very distinctly cartoonish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was almost melodramatic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Gabriel\u2019s song? Good lord! Did anyone else get \u201cFriends of the other side\u201d vibes? Like the whole aesthetic was perfection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only thing I had a gripe with is the fact that they didn\u2019t get Cristina Vee to sing, at least for the English version. It would\u2019ve been fine for Lou to only sing the French version but having her sing the English version made it jarring every time. Cristina Vee has a phenomenal voice. Let her sing! Because with how it is right now, I’m getting jolted out of the character every time she sings. It’s very clear that two different people are voicing the character here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Adore Tom But That\u2019s Not New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who has heard me talk about miraculous for any amount of time can tell you that I wish I had Marinette\u2019s parents. I adore them. They are who every parent should aspire to be like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the one thing I had an issue with was the Weredad episode. The whole overprotective dad threatening to off his daughter\u2019s crush is so tired. He\u2019s so adorably sweet most of the time that I think his anger should\u2019ve been saved for something more meaningful. I honestly think Marinette\u2019s parents should have at least one chance to save her from an akuma. Just look at Tom! I think he could take down an akuma easy, miraculous or no miraculous! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And can we please get a Sabine fight scene? I want to see her moves because I am sure she’s had in-depth training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So this was late because I had it in my drafts for possibly months. I\u2019m trying to change that now. New year new me and all that. But yeah, apologies for the delay. I hope you enjoyed the movie and I look forward to welcoming season 6 with you crazy lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
